About the diet

For some people, extra weight gradually creeps up on them. For me, it came with my four pregnancies. Every time I would finish nursing one baby and just start to lose the weight, I had another baby. Eventually, I had four children and seventy extra pounds. The day I finished nursing my youngest son, I started dieting, because I promised myself I would.

As of January 2008, I have lost about 65 pounds, and I have done most of this through diet alone. I know, I know, exercise is important. I’m not disputing that. But I think if you learn to eat the right way first, and you start to see results from doing that, the desire to exercise will follow naturally.

The plan I use is based largely on the book Healthy for Life by Dr. Ray Strand. If you can get hold of this book, it will help you understand my thought process when choosing certain foods and recipes. I pretty much stick to his outline of three meals plus snacks, and his list of acceptable foods. This is not a diet so much as the way I plan to eat for the rest of my life.

If you are on the South Beach Diet, most if not all of my recipes should be compatible. It’s very similar to my plan. I don’t know the phases well enough to label them by phase, but if you peruse the recipes you should be able to find something great for breakfast, lunch or dinner on the Beach!

    I’m looking forward to this blog! I need to loose ten pounds by May. It’s a small goal but it seems reachable, other than the fact that I’m working too much to figure out how to do it. I’m hoping this blog will help me with the figuring out part! I get so hungry and have no time to fix anything healthy. (Plus no desire to eat it! Yogurt and an apple sounds really good!)
